Liver spots & Dark spotsUnlike the name suggests, liver spots are not related to the liver. Liver spots and age spots are really the same thing. They are areas of dark color on the skin like a freckle, but they can be much larger. They can also be on a raised platform of skin. Liver spots are typically uniform color throughout and will not change in shape. They are caused by sun damage and aging of the skin. The edges of them are defined and they do not fade as freckles do. They are found in areas of high sun exposure to the skin.
Melanoma It is important to know for sure that you are dealing with age spots and not melanoma, which is very dangerous. Melanoma are asymmetric, they have badly defined borders, have variable shades of color through them. They can be itchy, sensitive, or bleed easily. If you are at all unsure, see a doctor about the skin spot to determine whether it is an age spot or melanoma. My experience Age spots are probably something you will notice on your hands first, but these can happen almost anywhere. They show up on areas that get the most exposure to sun. These are more than freckles. They can be avoided or at least postponed by consistent use of sun block. I got liver spots on the backs of my hands when I was around 20 years old. The dermatologist told me that it didn't mean there was anything wrong, some people just are prone to getting them. A few years ago, I decided that I did not want to have them. I did a chemical peel on the back of my hands and they are gone. They have never come back either. This is the best way to get rid of liver spots because they have a texture to them that goes beyond the freckle-like coloring. Afterwards, you have a smooth even toned hand. All the dark spots get removed in this treatment, even the freckles. Further improvement One important aspect about the skin on the back of your hand is that it is relatively thin, and becomes more thin with age. That is something that can give away your age even without age spots. To keep them looking healthy and thicken this skin, I use Collagen Induction Therapy treatments. I do these fairly regularly and feel very strongly that this treatment can make impressive improvements in your skin. My hands look great and do not tell my age. As we age, some areas of skin can lose the fat layer below The hands are one of those areas where this happens with most people. They are an extremely good example of this change. Once this fat layer is gone, the skin becomes thin much faster. The veins and underlying structure are much more visible. They stop looking as fleshy and smooth as they did in younger years. This is another good reason that collagen induction therapy can be of great help. AuthorMary Williamson, blogger, novice marketer, bonsai tree hobbyist ArchivesNo Archives Categories |
